1 Year Old Classroom

The theme for the One Year Olds for the whole year is God’s creations. The one year old lessons for the month of March will focus on creation and farm animals. (Genesis) God made all of the Animals on the Farm just like he made us! We will learn about God’s great creations through some fun activities this month!

Activities that are available all month include books about farm animals; pictures of cows, horses, goats, ducks, chickens, pigs, etc. posted around the room; songs about farm animals; Fisher Price farm animal toys; and rides on the fussy bus to look at the animal murals around Kids’ Club! Talk to the kids about God’s creations including all of the farm animals! God made all of the animals and he made us too!

3/03/07-3/25/07 Weekly Activities- Creation & Farm Animals

Mar 3rd/4th: teach the kids the different sounds that the farm animals make by singing Old MacDonald Had a Farm. Let the kids try the farm animal stamps and give everyone a stamp on their hand. Talk to the kids about how God made all the different types of farm animals!

Mar 10th/11th: decorate the barn coloring sheet with farm animal stickers. Tell the kids that God created the farm animals just like he created us!

Mar 17th/18th: play the color matching farm animal game. Help the kids match the colors to the different farm animals. Talk to the kids about how God made the animals to be different colors just like he made people to be different colors!

Craft/ Game Experience for Two years Old

Craft/ Game Experience for One Year Olds

This provides a more detailed description of the craft time and materials needed for the March crafts and activities.

Needs for the whole month:

  • Post pictures around the room of cows, horses, goats, ducks, chickens, pigs, etc.
  • Put the animal board books from last year back in the room—I believe there were some that had farm animals in them. Here are some suggestions for new books if we don’t have any: Moo Baa La La La; Animal Kisses; Click, Clack, Moo; Giggle, Giggle, Quack; The Big Red Barn
  • Purchase a CD of farm animal music. There are 2 choices on this web site to consider: animals songs and A day at Old McDonald’s farm songs http://www.kidsongs.com/shopkidsongs/category.cfm?Category=3

March 3rd/4th Activity

Purchase farm animal resin stamps from Oriental Trading (see below). We may still have these from last year.

March 10th/11th Activity

Make a coloring sheet with a barn on it. It should say “God made the farm animals”. Purchase the farm animal stickers from Oriental Trading (see below). The kids will decorate the coloring page with the stickers. We may have some left from last year.

March 17th/18th Activity

Make a color matching farm animal game. Each room should have two sets of cards. The cards should be larger than a normal playing card and should be heavy card stock or laminated. One card should just have a color and the other card should have a picture of the animal. Here are the matching pairs:

  • Pink = Pig
  • Yellow = Duck
  • Black/White = Cow
  • Brown = Horse
  • Red = Rooster
  • Gray = Goat
  • White = Lamb

March 24th/25th Activity

Purchase the video about farm animals (and jungle animals.) Play the video in the rooms this weekend.

Here’s the web site with info on the video that I found:

July 3rd – July 31st: Building Our Church

March 3rdMarch 25th: God’s Creations!

Mom and Dad,

Our theme in the Ones for this “school year” is God’s Creations!! In March, the One Year Olds lessons are focused on Creation and Farm Animals! (Genesis)

The One Year Olds will be learning about God’s creations through some fun sensory activities. We will learn about different types of farm animals using music, colors, crafts, and video. The kids will use their senses to find out more about God’s creation of Farm Animals. We will learn the farm animal sounds, decorate a barn with farm animal stickers, play the color matching farm animal game, and watch a video about farm animals. The kids will also get to look at lots of pictures of different types of animals that you can find on the farm!

We will talk about how God created all of the different types of farm animals just like He created us! We hope that you will talk to your kids about God’s love for us and His wondrous creations like the animals on the farm!

Ideas to do with your kids during the week:

  • Pray with your child at night and thank God for His creations like the farm animals.
  • Read books to your child about God’s creations. Some suggestions include: Animal Kisses by Barney Saltzberg, The Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown, and Moo Baa La La La by Sandra Boynton.
  • Look through some books and magazines together and try to find pictures of farm animals like cows, pigs, ducks, horses, chickens, goats, sheep, and roosters. Talk about how God created all of these animals just like he created us!
  • Sing Old MacDonald had a Farm and practice all of the farm animals sounds.
  • Visit a local farm to see some animals up close. Talk to your child about how God created each farm animal to be special just like He made us to be special!

If you have any questions about Kids’ Club or what your kids are learning, please let me know!
